Site Equip Celebrates 30 Years In the Hire industry

This October Site Equip celebrates 30 years in the hire industry delivering an outstanding service, hiring portable toilets, site accommodation, luxury toilet trailers, mobile showers, and trackway to the event and construction industries.

Site Equip were the first to bring portable toilets into the UK market from the USA. It was a tough challenge for Managing Director Sonia Gilbert to convince construction sites and event organizers to move away from trenches and invest in portable toilets. However, once they tried them, they couldn’t go back! Sonia and Geoff Gilbert worked full-time, running the business on evenings and weekends. Geoff’s father, Geoff, was their first employee, delivering and servicing the toilets. Today, the business has transformed. With two depots across the South of England, over 60 full-time staff, and a fleet of more than 3,000 toilets, Site Equip offers a wide range of services. These include showers, accommodation, and trackway.

Throughout the journey, there have been many challenges. One key moment was in 2012 when G4S withdrew from the Olympics, and the armed forces stepped in. Site Event quickly responded, delivering over 100 portable toilets within 12 hours. From the initial phone call to setting up a temporary base for the troops, Site Event ensured everything ran smoothly, despite it being the middle of July.

Site Equip and Site Event have pioneered innovation in their field. They were the first to manufacture drop-down cabins that don’t require a generator. In addition, they revolutionized the event toilet market. Not only did they introduce traditional portable toilets, but in 2010, they began manufacturing luxury themed toilet trailers. Now with an extensive range; Gypsy Caravan, Potting Shed, Beach Hut & Shepherds Hut, with the recent editions of the Brewery Trailer & the Shabby Chic, they also developed a urinal system for larger events and this year launched their new luxury vacuum range.

Not only toilets! Site Equip also branched out into accommodation, trackway, showers, waste tanks and liquid waste collection, with a range of tankers from 4×4 Landover Defenders and Mercedes Sprinters all the way to their brand new 3000 gallon tanker. 

In recent years, Amy and Adam Gilbert, the next generation of leadership, have taken the helm. They’ve secured new business with top clients such as London Fire Brigade, Carfest, Pub in the Park, and Standon Calling. Meanwhile, they continue to innovate and expand the fleet with new products.

Site Event’s latest addition, the Vacuum Pods, offer a luxurious and eco-friendly solution for event organizers. These pods reduce water usage to just 0.5L per flush, compared to the 9L of a traditional toilet. Furthermore, the pods no longer use blue chemicals.

Additionally, we’ve invested over half a million pounds in new welfare units and mobile cabins. This ensures our construction customers access the latest technology with the youngest fleet available.

With their 30^th year being Site Equip’s biggest year so far, at the peak having over 2,500 loos on hire, they are looking forward to the next 30 years. The Site Equip team are aiming to increasing the quality of hire equipment offered across the events and construction industries and supporting that with the excellent service they offer.
