International Women’s Day 2019 ?
Friday 8th March marks International Women’s Day 2019, a day recognised globally to observe and commemorate the social, economic, cultural and political success of women around the world!
International Women’s Day 2019 not only allows us to celebrate how far woman have come since the initial founding of the day in 1911, but it also encourages us to push further and demand more equality between genders. Site Equip fully supports International Women’s Day (IWD) and encourages women to join the construction sector, despite its male-dominated reputation.
We believe gender balance is vital for the success of both communities and businesses. That’s why we support the #BalanceforBetter campaign. This campaign promotes equal opportunities for all genders, urging both men and women to work towards balance. We believe #BalanceforBetter should be a goal throughout the year, not just on IWD.
At Site Equip we hire our employees based on skill and ability, regardless of their gender. Women take up just over 25% of our entire workforce, this includes both office-based and yard workers. That may not sound like a big percentage, but according to a 2018 study only 11% of females worked within the construction industry, the previous years holding an even smaller percentages. The number of women in the construction industry is definitely on the rise, but we still have a long way to go to shake the stigma that construction is a man’s job!
