WHAT IS SAFEHIRE?

The concept of SafeHire first came to light in 2010 when ‘Which?’ issued an unfavourable report detailing everything negative about the hire industry. The report damaged the reputation of hire and rental services. To regain a positive perception, Hire Association Europe (HAE), Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and the British Standards Institute (BSI) worked together. They determined the need for a practice to restore confidence in the hire sector. This is where the idea for SafeHire was born!

SafeHire sets the standards for quality operation within the hire industry and is continually monitoring and evolving it practices to ensure its effectiveness. Being SafeHire certified provides a greater level of transparency to clients, giving them the reassurance that they are hiring from a reliable company who are working at a first-class standard.

THE BENEFITS OF SAFEHIRE CERTIFICATION

Achieving SafeHire accreditation assures clients that a qualified assessor has audited and approved a company. Assessors are chosen for their extensive knowledge and experience in the UK hire industry. They meet strict recruitment standards and attend regular standardisation meetings.

This ensures audits are conducted by highly trained professionals with sector expertise. SafeHire certification demonstrates a company’s commitment to health, safety, the environment, and quality. It also highlights their adherence to SafeHire regulations, which are regularly updated to remain effective. SafeHire fosters trust, reliability, quality, and professionalism.

THE SAFEHIRE CERTIFICATION PROCESS

The certification process begins with a desktop assessment of a company’s written procedures. Afterward, an assessor visits the company to test these procedures in action. The assessor creates an individual assessment plan for the visit. The on-site evaluation usually lasts about four hours, during which the assessor checks whether employees understand and correctly implement the procedures. They then perform site and product inspections.

After each assessment, the assessor creates a detailed report for the company based on the audit results. Depending on the findings, the company must submit a plan to address the non-conformances. This corrective action plan serves as the basis for the next assessment in 12 months.

The certification lasts for three years, with an annual review visit to ensure ongoing compliance. Companies must maintain high standards to retain their certification.
