Snowbombing Festival isn’t the only festival in the alps but with the ski season coming to an end, now is a perfect time to evaluate how the festival industry is changing to offer far more than just a stage & music. This month we are focusing on partying in the alps, where the scene has moved on from a few drinks at apres to a full scale festival set up in the mountains. Not only are event organisers bringing big acts out to the alps they are also offering a wide range of extra activities you wouldn’t normally see at a UK festival. These include igloo raves, tropical waterpark paradises & snowpark parties to name a few not only that but the whole mountain has to offer skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing etc.
Snowbombing Festival is the Glastonbury of ski resort festivals, held in the resort of Mayrhofen it has been going since it was founded in 2000 and is regarded as the best alpine festival in the world. Not only was it the first but it has attracted huge names in the past including the likes of Fatboy Slim, Pendulum, Chase & Status who wouldn’t necessarily venture into the Alps unless it was for Snowbombing Festival’s status of the greatest show on snow.
As suppliers to the event industry we can only think about the logistics behind such an event which is 2000 meters up the side of a mountain, across a 2km area with an additional 2km in altitude climbs it is no easy task, although Snowbombing Festival make it look smooth as ice.
With the venues all across the ski resort and no road accesses in between the production equipment in ferried up via cable car and then skied into the venues making this festival very unique.
The weather conditions, line up & sheer scale of production is what truly makes this event one of its own. If only we had mountains in the UK!
