Cesspit emptying is important to ensure the cesspit does not leak or overflow. Continue reading to find out more about cesspit emptying.
Cesspit Emptying | How often should it be emptied?
A cesspit is a sealed, fully enclosed tank that collects and stores sewerage, this type of tank does not treat the sewerage in any way. This type of tank would be useful for locations where there is no access to mains drainage and unsuitable ground conditions for a septic tank. If the location is not near to ditch, stream or surface water drain, it will rule out the possibility of a sewage treatment plant. Take a look at our tanker servicing to see what wet waste disposal services we offer, including cesspit emptying.
It is important to have regular cesspit emptying by a registered waste handler, who will dispose of the waste at a registered site. The frequency of cesspit emptying is dependant on the size of the cesspit, size of household and water usage. This could be monthly, quarterly or yearly emptying, it is the cesspit owner’s responsibility to ensure you employ a registered waste handler to do this. It is also important that you check the level in the tank regularly – it is an offence under the 1936 Public Health Act to let it overfill. To ensure your cesspit remains in the best possible condition, use biologically-friendly household cleaning products – don’t let hazardous, flammable liquids or medicines get into the tank.
