Site Equip supports World Toilet Day every year and 2022’s theme is Making the Invisible Visible. World Toilet Day 2022 is about spreading awareness of the need for sanitation.
World Toilet Day is an annual United Nations Observance that has been running for nearly 10 years. This was created to highlight and to help tackle the global sanitation crisis.
There remains 3.6 billion people who are still living amongst poor quality toilets that destroy their health, whilst absolutely polluting their environment.
Over 800 children die from diarrhoea linked to unsafe sanitation every day.
Insufficient sanitation systems spread human waste in to lakes/rivers and contaminating the underground water sources. This huge issue is invisible to most people.
Why is it invisible?
The spread is happening under ground where people cannot notice it. It is occurring in the poorest countries where people do not have the opportunity to change it.
Every human has the right to have access to a toilet connected to a sanitation system that safely removes human waste. Sanitation that is safe and maintain creates a protection barrier for groundwater from human waste. This stops the pollution and enables people to have better health and a better quality of life.
Groundwater is the world’s most profuse source of freshwater. Groundwater supports clean drinking water sources, sanitation systems, farming, ecosystems. It is extremely vital for human and animal survival as the climate change continues to worsen.
Sustainable Development Goal 6.2 (SDG 6.2) is the world’s promise to ensure safe sanitation for all by 2030. At the moment, we are completely off track to meet this target.
