The LGBTQIA+ community has undoubtedly progressed in a positive way in the last century. However, it is still important to bring attention to the fact that there is still a large amount of discrimination against the community. Legislation to allow same sex marriage in England and Wales was only passed in 2013. Understanding that there is still prejudice against the LGBTQIA+ community is an important step for our future to ensure equality for everyone regardless of your sexual orientation

More than a third of LGBTQIA+ staff have hidden their sexual orientation in fear of discrimination in the workplace.

Give out are an award-winning charity that works towards bringing equality to the LGBTQIA+ community across the globe. Their donations provide grants to organisations around the world to ensure they have the resources needed to defend and tackle inequalities to make a lasting change.
They are currently supporting over 40 LGBTQIA+ organisations working around to world to help eliminate discriminatory laws, policies, practices and to change attitudes toward the community.
Mind Out is a mental health support service run by and for LGBTQ people to help improve the wellbeing and mental health of the community. They offer online support live chat so people within the community always have someone to talk to when they are struggling. Mind Out also provides safe spaces for people within the community to meet up to prevent isolation. By making people feel heard, Mind Out is bringing attention to the subject of mental health for the LGBTQIA+ community.
The AKT charity are actively supporting 16β25-year-old LGBTQ+ youth who are at risk of homelessness, homeless or living in hostile environments. Today 24% of young homeless people identify as being LGBTQ+ which is why this charity is so important.
In a single year from 2021/22 AKT gave 6957 Housing support sessions and put 110 LGBTQ+ young people in long-term secure housing. Additionally, 753 of their service users were connected to training and education and directed 1589 individuals to mental health services.Β It is undeniable that they have made a large positive impact for the community.
