International Women’s Day is on the 8th of March which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. Here at Site Equip, we love to empower Women in Construction.
For International Women’s Day at Site Equip, we are embracing the power and progress of women in the construction industry. It is a very prominent time for women across the world, with movements such as #MeToo and #TimesUp demonstrating the disparity between men and women in Hollywood. The #MeToo movement has not just affected Hollywood but has had an industry spread impact, whilst not only focusing on sexual misconduct but other areas where there are imbalances between men and women.
Currently, the construction industry has the worst male to female ratio of any industry. It is extremely important for more business to embrace the power and progress of women in construction, there are positives for women in this industry – being in the minority can help you stand out amongst your male colleagues and become a crucial team member for roles where a woman’s skill set would work best. Having a more equal gender ratio within a workplace will offer a larger field of skills, new viewpoints and ideas as well as a varied and dynamic workplace.
It is vital for employers in the construction industry to recognise the importance of women in their workplace. Here at Site Equip, our indoor construction team is 75% female – we actively encourage more women in construction and recruit employees regardless of gender and would like to encourage other businesses to do the same. It is a large and varied field for women to explore and presents great opportunities for women in construction in a historically male dominated industry.
