World Toilet Day 2015! …some might snigger. However today, 19th November 2015, is a really important day to reflect on some very serious facts. The bewildering and I find, shocking stats show that 1 in 3 in the world have no access to a toilet. Equate that to heads of population and it is a staggering 2.3 billion people.
We all take toilets for granted, however it seems that a third of the world have the embarrassment of defecating in the open and often in view of others. Just imagine how horrified you would feel losing any self-respect and suffer the ridicule of others. The awful reality is that this happens every day and young girls would rather not attend their ‘toilet less’ school, jeopardising crucial education. That is why Site Equip is helping celebrate World Toilet Day 2015 to help raise awareness for the cause.
It must resonate with any parent when the facts are further broken down and you discover that 315 thousand children die every year, because of the disease caused by human waste entering the water system and by general bad hygiene. Further break that down and is seems 900 A DAY, mostly under 5’s, are dying. Life expectancy being held at ransom for the lack of a toilet.
Site Event recently helped with the supply of chemical toilets and donated some broken loos for course obstacles at the recent Water Aid organised mud obstacle race. This great fundraiser was a huge success and looks likely to be a regular event. It is prodigious that a serious message can be delivered in a day of fun and consequential educational awareness of participants.
To support World Toilet Day 2015 you can set up a regular bank transfer of as little as £2 a month (equivalent to half a pint of beer) or make a one off donation.
