This year, International Women’s Day is on the 8th of March and Site Equip are asking you to ‘Embrace Equity‘ by supporting and celebrating women in Construction!
International Women’s Day is all about celebrating women’s achievements and increasing visibility, whilst calling out for equity.
It gives us a great opportunity to shine a light on the achievements of women across Site Equip; reinforce commitment to achieve gender balance. Plus, showcase the actions we’re taking to empower women and advance gender equality. It is everyone’s job to help forge a gender-equal world.
What is Equity?
Equity is a process to ensure everyone is given individual adjustments to correct imbalances and create success for all. At Site Equip we believe it is important to recognise everyone may not start from the same place so giving people equal opportunities is not enough.
Site Equip believes in empowering our women with opportunities to progress and develop. This year alone two-thirds of our promotions have been to women, half of our board of directors are women and five out of twelve of our senior managers are female. We are convinced that gender equality is critical for building a more sustainable future for our business and our communities.
To encourage women to succeed within the workforce we have provided fully funded training courses across the business. Courses including Transport Manager CPC, CIPD HR qualifications, and Marketing Courses, as well as support and mentorship from women across the business.
Additionally, Women in Construction week is from 5-11 March.

This year’s theme is many paths, one mission. This emphasises the theme of embracing equity. We all have our own paths and start from different positions but we all have the same goal of amplifying the success of women and creating equity in construction.
Why empower women?
– 100-150 million more people would be fed if women had access to the same resources as men.
– Women make up 50% of the global population and 40% of the global workforce. Yet women only own 1% of the world’s wealth.
– Over 25 years, 55% of the progress in the fight against hunger comes from improvements to the social situation of women.
– Environmental degradation and climate change have disproportionate impacts on women and children. Globally, women are 14 times more likely than men to die during a disaster.
