As I gaze across the office, my eyes are drawn to the beautifully decorated Christmas tree and the ceiling decorations and I suddenly find myself wondering who stole the last year. Can we really be coming up to that time already? Christmas Shutdown! – Which is uncommon at Site Equip as we are on call for your 24/7 emergency toilet hire needs!
I remember last Christmas as if it were yesterday. The sprouts were peeled, the turkey was stuffed, slavered in butter and covered in strips of bacon all ready for roasting and I was up extra early to preheat the oven ready for the family to come over for a (hopefully) legendary Christmas lunch.
However, in my world things rarely go to plan and half an hour later the oven was stone cold. I had a vague recollection of some sparks and an electrical burning smell as I was cooking a little treat of breaded king prawns the previous evening and realised the element must have gone. At this point I was approaching panic but then I remembered, I was married to a CANADIAN.
Now most people associate barbecue’s with the Australians but it must be said that the Canadians are pretty good at it too. Cooking times are determined by how long it takes to drink a standard beer, which, as you will appreciate, can be pretty variable. It helps to know your own Canadian. As a guideline you could have a one beer burger or a two beer chicken portion, for example. This was about a thirty beer turkey so it was likely to get a bit messy. I then decided to set about hacking the turkey into manageable portions, something easier said than done when it is covered with slippery butter. I am not someone you would normally want to leave unsupervised with a sharp knife! However the deed was done and eventually we managed to have some semblance of a dinner and it may be helpful to note that even parsnips and roast potatoes can be done on a gas barbecue.
Whilst I am thinking of the sort of things that can go wrong, I am mindful that it always helps if you have a contingency. That’s why, when you are at home, enjoying your Christmas Day, festive break or just a bit of time off work, it’s worth remembering that there is an emergency team at Site Equip, fired up and ready help with other sorts of emergency toilet hire that can happen at this time of year. They may not be able to cook your dinner for you, (if your oven breaks, like the turkey, you are probably stuffed), but they can deliver emergency toilets and site welfare over the holiday period in the event of burst pipes, flooding or other weather related emergencies.
Have a great Christmas, whatever you may be doing. Stay warm and safe and remember, a service driver is for life, not just for Christmas!
